Locking Arms with Younger & Older Generations-Part Three

Paul knew that his time on this side of the dirt was short. He wrote 2 Timothy from a prison cell in Rome and would later be executed. This letter is passing the torch to future generations.

I love how Paul encourages us to pass the torch too, in 2 Timothy 2:15, “Work hard so you can present yourself to God and receive His approval. Be a good worker, one who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly explains the word of truth.”

The study of God’s Word is truly a work. It takes dedication and discipline to rightly explain the word of truth. Sunday School is so important also, I love gathering with sisters in Christ over our Sunday School lessons and discussing how the Lord is using the weeks lesson for every day living.

Paul then goes on to tell Timothy, “But you must remain faithful to the things you have been taught. You know they are true, for you know you can trust those who taught you. You have been taught the holy Scriptures from childhood, and they have given you the wisdom to receive the salvation that come by trusting in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.”

Once we have been taught, the hard work sets in. Being faithful to the things we have learned, walking out in the wisdom that has been given to us. Scripture corrects us when we do wrong so that we can turn away and do what is right. Important also, we must join up with a local church for fellowship and to be equipped for sharing the Gospel. I am finding that we can do this with a healthy balance of inreach and outreach in our churches.

Stay tuned for the final part of our series, Part Four.

Passing the Torch,
